A Living Hope

Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ! In his great mercy he has given us new birth into a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, and into an inheritance that can never perish, spoil or fade—kept in heaven for you, who through faith are shielded by God’s power until the coming of the salvation that is ready to be revealed in the last time. In this you greatly rejoice, though now for a little while you may have had to suffer grief in all kinds of trials (1 Pe 1:3–6).

If you have ever felt hopeless, you know the importance of hope.

Feeling hopeless is like…

  • Being so far behind in the game you see no reason to try

  • Having no reason to get out of bed this morning… or tomorrow morning

  • Receiving a diagnosis and being unable to see a future

  • Deciding to give up after watching those for whom you prayed, turn further away from God

Is your hope limited to this life?

If one were to look at this world from a purely natural point of view, there are plenty of reasons to believe our hope is limited. I’ve heard a statement that defines hopelessness: “Life is hard, then you die."

Thank God for the good He has given us in this life. There are countless joys for which we should give thanks. But if our hope is based on what meets the eye, sooner or later, what we see disappears. If our hope is dependent on what this life has to offer, even the best of life has an expiration date.

What if you had a “living hope”?

Living hope is hope that does not die. Living hope does not expire. Whatever may happen, a living hope lasts. Where can we find such hope? Certainly, nothing on this earth can provide hope that never ends. But there is One who is the source of real, lasting hope—the living Son of God, the Lord Jesus Christ.

Through the resurrection of His Son, God offers living hope—endless hope—to the world!

Living hope is based on the Living Lord!

Whether one is healthy and wealthy or sick and poor, there is a day when life on this earth will end. But those who place their hope and faith in the Living Lord have a living hope beyond this life!

"If only for this life we have hope in Christ, we are to be pitied more than all men" (1 Co 15:19).

Through His word, the Bible, God has given us many great reasons to have hope. The death, burial, and resurrection of His Son from the dead is the greatest reason for hope and ultimately, the basis for all hope offered by God.

Have you chosen to place your hope and faith in the Living Hope—the Lord Jesus Christ?

If your hope in Christ is greater than your hope in anyone or anything else, you have a living hope!

Have you chosen to place your hope and faith in the Living Hope—the Lord Jesus Christ?

Living hope is not based on feelings and circumstances. Living hope is faith based on the fact that the Son of God died for our sin, rose from the dead, and reigns forever.

Is your faith based on the fact Jesus is the Living Lord?

A living hope does not prevent loss; it lives beyond loss. Living hope is alive even when our dreams, relationships, health, and loved ones die. Living hope is alive even when we die. How? Because Jesus is alive!

Jesus said, "Because I live, you also will live" (Jn. 14:19b).

Yes, life is tough and there are plenty of tears to be shed even for those who hope in Christ. But Christ gives the hope we need to get us through the deep, dark valleys of this life. As the song says, “Because He lives, we can face tomorrow”!

The only hope that will not let us down is the hope that is placed in the living Lord.
